NRC celebrates success!


Newbury Road Club Annual Awards Evening recognises individual achievement and contribution in 2022


Newbury Road Club held it’s annual awards evening Wednesday 15 March at the Bowler’s Arms in Newbury. Some 60 of it’s members were present for an evening of socialising and curry and to recognise time trialling performances and other achievements within the Club.


Club President, Steve Dawes, presented the Awards to the worthy winners.

On the time trialling side, Michelle Gautier won the Ladies’ 10 mile Championship having only signed up as a member of the Club on the start line. She also went on to win the Ladies’ 25 mile Championship and the Ladies Best All Rounder (BAR) trophy in what was an excellent debut season.

On the men’s side, Andy Laycock again took home up a number of trophies including the Men’s 25 mile (and Veterans’) Championships, the Stonham Shield (for consistently fast 10 mile rides), the Spoco Series (for events on the hillier courses) and the Senior Men’s and Veterans’ BARs.

Peter Dennett - Tate 10 mile Handicap

Richard Byrne - Smith 25 Handicap and Non-Aero Series

Peter Fuell - Percival 25 mile Trophy



The prestigious Merit Shield for outstanding services to the Club was awarded to Dave and Lynn Portwood.

The First Year Junior trophy was awarded to 14 year old Jack Calvert and the women’s award, for the rider making outstanding achievement in or contribution to women’s cycling within the Club, went to Jo Harrop.


NRC Women Ride Leaders accepting Cup on behalf of Jo Harrop

Daniel McRobert and Gideon Rabinowitz received awards for their astonishing performances in the London-Edinburgh-London ride in August which involved over 1500 km with 5,000 vertical metres of climbing and all within a 125 hour maximum time.

Wendy Birchenough received the Newbury Road Club award for Club Run attendance.
