NRC away-day headed down south to the South Downs

The sun shone. The winds were light. The scenery was sublime.

Greens enjoying the views

On Sunday 18th April, NRC enjoyed its first drive ‘n ride away-day of 2021, to the stunning chalk landscape that is the South Downs National Park. Over twenty riders gathered in separate locations to ride in small groups around quite lanes, thatched villages with a few climbs to take in the spectacular views.

The Green ride took in a gentle 25 miles of scenery between Alresford and West Meon, the Blue ride headed further west to take coffee in the Cloisters Café at Petersfield while two Red rides tackled the climbs of Harting Hill, crossing the ancient South Downs Way, with a well-earned break in Midhurst.

Our away-day programme gives members the chance to cycle on some new tarmac, with routes carefully plotted and organised by the Rides Team. All you have to do is to make your own way to the start. We have more away-days planned this summer to the Isle of Wight, the Chilterns, the New Forest, and an away weekend in the Brecon Beacons later in the season. Our next trip is to witness the Severn Bore at the end of this month.

Full details are on the events calendar here.

Our thanks to the ride leaders and especially Peter Boroff and Dave Martin for planning these events.

Invites are sent out via our Club App Spond. If you fancy joining us for any of these events, either as member or a come-and-try-it, get in touch with our rides team here.

Note, our regular rides still leave Newbury Market place at the usual times, even when there is a Sunday Away Day.
