Bumper BBQ Turnout

The NRC Summer BBQ returned after a one-year gap, and the sun shone on the righteous!

The sun shone bright for our 2021 Summer BBQ. NRC members, partners, families and friends were treated to a cracking hog roast from local butcher Griffins, and sumptuous salads and desserts lovingly prepared by our Club members.

Over 50 cyclists left Newbury marketplace earlier in the day for Green, Blue, Red and Black Rides. It was super to see the Veteran section out in force, and a 10-strong Women’s Ride completed the line-up.

Out on the road, the various groups were beautifully captured on camera by photographer Gareth Davies – look out for those shots on our website in the coming months.

Having pre-fuelled on coffee and cake, the groups returned to be joined by non-riders and the feast began.

Organiser Lorraine Murrell was delighted with the turnout: “The Rydal paddock looked as welcoming as ever thanks to our hosts Derek and Rosemary Harper. Chef Peter Booroff gave a whole new meaning to ‘Pig in Blanket’ and I am so grateful to him and all who helped with set-up and take down, and to our members who provided salads and desserts. My particular thanks go to those who gave up their regular Sunday rides to make the event such a success!”

“It’s been too long since we have been able to have such a gathering free from restrictions and we all made the most of the occasion. Above all it was super to see so many and to welcome a lot of our new members. Cycling is so popular right now and we are enjoying rapid growth. Events like this help remind us we are all part of a great Club!”

Thank you for the generous donations to our charities. If you didn’t have cash on the day and would like to donate, please click on the Just Giving links British Heart Foundation 60 for 60 Appeal or Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice.

Don’t miss the next Club social, planned for 16th September – keep a look out on the club app Spond for details.
