Newbury Road Club member Chris Treacher put in a great shift at the World Triathlon European Championships on Sunday 3 June. Representing Great Britain in the Male Sprint event against Europe’s finest, Chris posted an impressive 29th in his age group. All that early morning swimming practice at Northcroft was in vain though, as the heavy rain impacted the water quality, and the event was modified to a Duathlon. The Swim was replaced by an extra 2km ‘warm up’ run. However, a strong ‘undulating’ 20km cycle and fast 5km run gained him a respectable place in the finish.
Chris is a regular face on NRC Club Rides and has a long history of helping and encouraging fellow cyclists. Chris was part of the Team Kennet group who got our local Newbury Triathlon started over 30 years ago. Competitors may spot him refereeing that event as Chris is a qualified Technical Officer for British Triathlon, as well as an accredited British Cycling Coach.
Chris a great contributor to our Club and an inspiration to us all. Well done Chris!
