Test Valley Tour passes the test

NRC Midweek riders enjoy a grand day out cycling round North Hants.

Some days are made for cycling – and Thursday 26 August 2021 was one. A perfect Autumn day, great company and a lovely route through some of the best scenery North Hampshire has to offer.

Over 20 riders in mixed groups gathered at Burghclere for the Grand Depart. After a warm up climb over Watership Down, we made our way down the beautiful Test Valley villages for a coffee in stop in the heart of chalk-stream land: Stockbridge.

Ride organisers Gordon Fry, David Lillystone and Dave Portwood had done their homework so the next loop, round Mottisfont Abbey, was delight through quiet picturesque lanes and villages. Houghton Gardens provided a fine lunch stop before we made our way back up through the valley for a well-earned drink at the Carpenter’s Arms at Burghclere.

The 65 mile round trip was one in a season of Club Away Days and Drive ’n Rides and members can sign up for free using the club app Spond. The route is also on the app for those who wish to try it.

Thanks to all those involved on planning a grand day out!
