4th Annual Dave Jones Memorial TT

Honouring a Newbury Road Club Legend

In the early morning of a very hot Bank Holiday Monday 25th May 2026, a fantastic entry of 63 riders competed over the 25-mile H25/1A course in the 4th edition of the Dave Jones Memorial Open Time Trial, on this smooth and fast route. During the race there were some good times and personal bests from Peter Fuell (NRC), Sam Krauze (NRC) and Bjorn Lawton (NRC), but the record temperatures must have constrained the pedalling power.  Nevertheless, all the competitors enjoyed the day and were impressed by the club’s ability to run a successful event at this scale.

We were thrilled to have Dave’s family with us and to hand out the prizes. Special thanks to Cherry (Dave’s eldest daughter) with husband, Simon and daughter, Eleanor along with Philip (Dave’s son) with his wife, Beth and their daughter Tala, and Vanessa (Dave’s youngest daughter).

Congratulations to Hadyn James (BPC Race Team) for winning the open event, Linda Dewhurst (Cheltenham & Country CC) for the fastest female and for winning the vets age adjusted prize, and therefore receiving the Dave Jones Memorial Trophy.  Well done also to Peter Sibley (Watford Velo Sport) for the fastest Road Bike, and to Jo Wilkie (Magspeed Racing) for the female prize (bumped up due to the one prize one person rule).

The team prize went to Newbury Road Club, thanks to Sam Krauze, Tristan Davenne, and Peter Brook-Wavell for their excellent times beating North Hants CC (2nd) and Velo Clinic (3rd).  Thanks to all the other riders from our club, including Abigail Goodwin, who went on to run the Newbury 10K straight after the race, and Bjorn Lawton who competed on a road bike.

The event couldn’t have happened without the support of the wider NRC Community who turned out in force: Richard Byrne, who organised it all, the timekeepers Bob Lyle & Alan Alewood the start & finish line helpers, all the marshals and people out on the course, everyone back at the HQ, the cake makers and kitchen staff, Jerry Rolfe for helping organise all the volunteers, and Clare Emons  for her expertise in all things cycling.

A big thank you also to Gareth Davis for once again taking some great photos which are available to download for free from his website where you can also donate to his chosen charity

The hero of the day was Bob Richardson from Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers who gave up the race midway to help save a runaway child on the A4 and waited for the police to arrive. Thank you Bob.

All the results are available on the CTT website

You can read more about Dave Jones himself on the NRC website, here

And finally.... NRC member and keen photographer, Torbjorn Hultmark captured this lovely scene - a time trialist of the future here, perhaps!
