Discovering Denia: Autumn 2026

The Club's final adventure of the year started early on 28 Sept with 15 members boarding the 0730 flight to Valencia for an early autumn outing, hosted by Sporta Bike Plus. A short transfer to the hotel left plenty of time to collect our Cervelo road bikes, with high spec, and forgiving SRAM chain sets, ready to hit the roads for a fast peloton ride before dinner!

We were based in the town of Denia, just about half way between Valencia and Alicante. It's a popular cycling destination for a lot of the pro teams who conduct their end of year training cycles on the nearby mountains.
And yes there were mountains, plenty of them, and in between there were even more hills!
After Day 1 we split into different groups, following self guided routes using gpx routes provide by Sporta Bike. This worked really well, with each group gauging their own abilities and settling into their own pace. A support vehicle was always on call but fortunately not needed for the entire week. Nobody got separated or lost and the entire week was hugely enjoyable.
Iconic climbs included the Coll de Rattes, a route with the fastest time claimed by a young man called Pogacar. He manages 11 minutes something: 12 of us completed it with a best time over 35 minutes - go figure! To celebrate, on the following day 5 of us took on the 9 mile ascent up the other side from Benidorm direction, don’t ask the time!
And to top it all, the weather was perfect, the only rain being a tropical storm on the penultimate evening.

We're pleased to say that Sporta Bike will be hosting our trip to Italy in May 2027.
