Postcard from Port de Pollença

Updated: May 9

Who doesn’t need a ray of sunshine now and again? And, after the Spring soaking we have all endured on recent Club rides, a return trip to the sunnier climes (and climbs) of Mallorca provided a welcome respite.

For a second consecutive year, NRC members swapped overshoes for sunscreen and headed en-masse to Port de Pollença, cycling HQ on this most bike-friendly of islands.

This year we were based at the Cabot Hotel and hosted by the outstanding Mallorca Cycling Holidays. Their expert guide team ensured that members of every speed and ability enjoyed rides to savour.

Whether it was a leisurely spin through the local olive groves, or breathtaking climbs and descents through magnificent scenery, everyone was well satisfied, with plenty to share over dinner and drinks each evening.

Like our regular weekly rides, Club ‘away trips’ are hugely popular. For many years we have organised Spring and Autumn weekends away in the UK. Next month there is a three-day trip from Land’s End to Newbury, and yet more members are heading to the Dordogne for a week’s cycling in September.  These longer trips are already well- subscribed and are in addition to the extended day rides or drive-and-rides to destinations such as the Cotswolds, Test Valley and Isle of Wight. The Spring overseas trip looks set to become a regular fixture and plans are being hatched for a visit to Northern Italy in May 2025.

For all of these, look out for announcements by email, in the Club app Spond or on the special events schedule here.

As always, we are indebted to those who make these trips happen. For Mallorca we are especially grateful to David Lillystone for the tireless planning and organisation, and to Nicky Ager for making sure the ground transport all ran super-smoothly.

If you weren’t able to join us in Mallorca this year, we hope the photos from our members below give you a flavour of the fun that was had. And we look forward to seeing you out in the British sunshine soon!

Salud!

Team NRC.
