Joint Statement - Newbury Velo & Newbury Road Club
The recent Newbury TT Challenge Cup, a two-event series 10 mile time trial contest between Newbury Velo Cycling Club and Newbury Road Club has been a big success with over 110 riders competing over a classic 10 mile course. In round one, Newbury Road Club had a narrow combined lead of 10 seconds over Newbury Velo. In round two, Newbury Velo mounted a strong challenge to reverse the deficit and win the series with a 12 second aggregate advantage.
However, a plot twist!
A recount in the days following the finale has concluded that the result was actually a 1 minute and 2 second overall victory for Newbury Road Club. The issue arose thanks to a complicated age-adjustment system which is factored in to each rider's results coupled with some good old fashioned human error. The results have been double, treble checked and verified; congratulations therefore now go instead to Newbury Road Club for their excellent win!
The Newbury TT Challenge Trophy itself will be presented back to Newbury Road Club complete with ribbons of blue and yellow, their historic colours. The series returns in 2026 where once again, the contest is sure to be a close one! With thanks, on behalf of both clubs to all riders, from the two clubs and from further afield for their enthusiastic participation in these events. And sorry again for the mix-up!
