"The end was not what I expected; I was becoming aware that I was in an ambulance, connected with lots of wires, and a bandage around my right forearm, and feeling like I’d been badly winded.  Then seeing other riders pop their faces into the ambulance, Andy, Dan and Jason as I remember. I think I had my phone with me as my wife Ruth rang me asking where the  car was and she also talked to the medic; then a call from a close friend Sarah having heard from me on WhatsApp that I’d come a cropper."
