If the West Berkshire roads felt a little quieter last week, it could be because a large number of Newbury's cyclists were touring the delightful Adriatic Riviera.
In celebration of its 100th anniversary, Newbury Road Club ventured to the Northeastern Italian town of Riccione for a week of cycling, sun and fun on two wheels. The Club chose this region not just for its stunning scenery but also because it is in the heart of Emilia Romagna, the gastronomic capital of Italy, famous for parmesan cheese, prosciutto ham, balsamic vinegar, seafood and great wines – much of which was sampled during the tour!
The riding was spectacular and most days, different-paced groups headed out to medieval hilltop towns before joining together with non-cycling members for a group feast. On one day, the Italian hosts, Stefano Giuliodori and his team at Hotel Dory, welcomed NRC riders back to base with a surprise sparkling reception to mark the Club’s centenary.
Along with multiple weekly local rides, Newbury Road Club organises frequent away days, weekend excursions, and longer overseas trips, all coordinated by its volunteer members. Rides cater for mixed abilities and e-bikes are always welcome. To learn more about NRC and its vibrant social calendar, visit www.newburyroadclub.co.uk.
