NRC TT Review 2025 - Tim Cartwright and Abi Goodwin are the big winners

More and more members are being tempted to join in the Wednesday evening racing fun! This season 38 Newbury Road Club members raced in at least one time trial, a big increase on previous seasons.

Abi Goodwin again dominated the female competitions, winning the 10 and 25 mile Championships and the SPOCO Series as well as the Tate and Burns Handicap.  She will definitely need a bit of help carrying all her trophies home after the awards dinner on 27th November!

There was a very welcome return to racing by Tim Cartwright who had been absent for a few years.  Tim comfortably won the mens’ 10 mile and 25 mile trophies as well as the Veteran’s trophy for both distances.

We were missing Andy Laycock for most of this season’s events because of his IronMan training.  Hopefully, Andy will realise the error of his ways and be back to give Tim a run for his money next season.

Sam Krauze, won the mens’ SPOCO and Non-aero competitions.  A brilliant first season.  Sam’s fantastic ride in Monmouthshire, in which he rode a staggering 237 miles in twelve hours, is the subject of its own blog here.

This season’s Club Hill Climb Championship was again held on a Tuesday Evening in mid-summer and again used the long course from Kintbury to Walbury Hill.  Peter Brooke-Wavell retained the title he won in 2024.

This year, we also held the inaugural Newbury Challenge TT Trophy, in which our members competed head on against riders from Newbury Velo.  This two-legged event attracted over 100 entries, with most riders being from one of the two Newbury  clubs.  This tremendous turn-out shows that time trialling in our area is alive and well!  Despite some confusion over the final result, we won the event by a very small margin.  We look forward to continuing our friendly cross-town rivalry next season.

We also held our annual Dave Jones Memorial OPEN TT in May, with Dave’s family again present to give out the prizes.

Congratulations to all the Club members who competed this year and particularly to our competition winners.  Awards will be handed out at the Club Dinner on 27th November.

Also, many thanks to everybody who helped out at any of our events.  They are too numerous to name here but we could not put on our events without them.

We are already planning our events for next season and hope as many members as possible will join us.
